Submit a Student Workplace Validation Form to HEFG
- Complete 400 hours of work experience. Keep your proof of work.
- This proof can be submitted in letter from your employer(s) or by submitting pay stubs.
- 150 hours of this work experience may be unpaid.
- 250 hours MUST be paid work experience.
- Additional information is available on the 400 Internship Hour Policy.
- Proof will need to be submitted by the educator to HEFG.
- Complete the Student Workplace Validation form.
- Provide proof of 400 hours Work Experience.
- HEFG sign the Student Workplace Validation form and fax it to the NRAEF.
ProStart 400 Internship Hour Policy
Attaining all 400 internship hours in a restaurant or foodservice operation is not always feasible
Students can work in other industry-related capacities but there is flexibility on job description.
- To attain a ProStart® National Certificate of Achievement, students must show proof of 400 industry hours.
- Students may earn up to 150 hours in “alternative” hospitality-related jobs or activities. These alternative hospitality-related jobs may be paid or unpaid.
- The ProStart Workplace Validation Form should outline the number of hours spent on regular internship hours, alternative hospitality-related jobs or activities, and approve the total number of hours spent on those activities. The form will validate proof of 400 internship hours earned.
- Students may receive credit on their Student Work Experience Checklist for involvement in alternative activities.
- Possible activities:
- Working in hospitality-industry manufacturers’, suppliers’ or vendors’ offices.
- School-based enterprises (foodservice or restaurant)
- Hospitality/culinary volunteer community service (food bank or recycling programs).
- Volunteering with ACF, HEFG or GRA at public relations events.
- Working in travel and tourism (convention and visitors bureau, convention centers, airlines, attractions.
