How do I get a Mentor?
Here are some best practices for finding a mentor.
- Look at your classes.
- Are your students working? Ask them to ask their chef.
- Who are their parents?
- Where do you eat?
- Have a local restaurant you love? Ask the chef?
- Where do you wish you could eat? Send a note to the chef?
You never know until you ask.
When all else fails, HEFG can help you find a mentor. You must fill out the HEFG yearly teacher survey. After HEFG receives your survey, we follow careful rules to placing mentors.
Mentors are matched to their geographic location and by need. It is done in the following way:
- Teachers with competition teams and have not competed before, and do not have mentors, will be offered the first mentors. When those teachers all have mentors or no mentors are geographically close…
- Teachers with competition teams and without mentors will be offered mentors. When they have mentors or there are no mentors that are geographically close…
- Teachers who have decided not to compete will be given mentors.
For ProStart:
- Mentors who have specified “ProStart” will only be placed in ProStart classes, if no ProStart schools are available, the mentor will not be placed in a school.
- If all the ProStart classes have mentors and another ProStart mentor becomes available, the teacher will be offered additional support.
