Hospitality Expo Rules

VIP Guests Workshop Speakers Compass Group

This is your opportunity to teach students how to act in a professional manner. Here are some guidelines. Please read and review them with your students to have a great Hospitality Career Expo experience.

DO NOT TEXT OR USE YOUR PHONES DURING THE EXPO.

• Respect the speaker. Speakers are donating their time to share personal stories with your students. Texting during the workshop is like texting during a class. Demonstrate professionalism and respect.

DO NOT TREAT THE EXPO LIKE A PLAYGROUND.

• Do NOT run around the Expo. Do NOT go behind booths or curtains. Do NOT make-out in the workshop. This is an industry trade show and not “free time”. Demonstrate professionalism 100% of the time.

DO NOT HAVE THE BOOTHS SIGN OR MARK ANYTHING.

• Do not ask the sponsors to sign or mark a piece of paper. We will have over 2,300 students this year.  Sponsors have come to share a message not sign attendance sheets. Other ideas on next page.

DO NOT USE THE BOOTHS AS DESKS!

• DO HAVE STUDENT TAKE THEIR OWN NOTES ON THEIR OWN HARD SURFACES.

DO ASK PROFESSIONAL QUESTIONS.

• Have your students ask about their business and message.  That is why the companies are here so ask.

• Poor questions are: "What color are your shoes?"  "Where were you born?" "How far did you drive?", "When did you start your business?", “What is your name?”, “What is your zip code?”  These don't refer to a message.

• Good questions are: "What do you want me to know about your company."  "Tell me about this product", "What are you here to tell us?"  These are open ended questions and ask about the message.  Every company should be prepared for these type of questions.

DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM THE BOOTHS WITHOUT ASKING.

• Companies have brought products to teach students, NOT as handouts. This is all about education.

• Have students ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT PRODUCTS if they wish to have one. A simple question can be “what is that?” or “What is that used for?” or “why did you bring that today?” Demonstrate interest.

WHEN YOUR STUDENTS ARE TIRED, GO TO WAITING ROOM.

• Have students visit all the booths and demonstrations. These companies go through a lot of work to come to this show just to meet you and your students, don’t disappoint them.

• DO NOT sit on the floor by the booths.

• The waiting room is for eating, meeting up with students, and quietly resting. Remind students to act professional in this room. Screaming or rough housing is not acceptable!

DON’T LEAVE THE EXPO WITHOUT PERMISSION OR WITHOUT AN ADULT

• No one should leave the Expo without your approval.

• If your students are no longer visiting booths, have them sit in the “waiting room” only.

• No student should be walking, sitting, exploring, or “hanging out” outside of the venue for any reason. The Expo takes place in professional environments; we have assured them students will not be roaming around unescorted. Breaking this agreement could risk future events for you and your future students.

• STUDENTS WILL CONDUCT THEMSELVES IN A QUIET AND RESPECTFUL MANNER throughout the Expo. Student behavior reflects the teacher and the school.

BE RESPECTFUL OF THE BOOTHS WHO ARE GIVING SAMPLES!

• DO NOT MOCK the food or insult the products. If you do not like something. Say “thank you, move away from the area discreetly to dispose of it quietly. BE RESPECTFUL to your booth host.

• DO NOT “LOAD UP” on samples.

• Take a ONE PIECE. Say “thank you” and move to the next station.

KEEP TO YOUR SCHEDULE – OR YOU’LL MISS OUT ON SOMETHING

• There is a lot to see but limited spots. We’ve scheduled your experience so you can see and do everything possible. Make sure the students understand the schedule. You will know where they are and they can see and do everything. Don’t miss out – FOLLOW THE SCHEDULE.

• Show up at 1 pm to the workshop room. We will give out gifts to all teachers, scholarships, thank the sponsors, and get out quickly
