HEFG Expo Lesson Plans
Option 1: Scavenger Hunt or “What do you want me to know”
Objective: Students will learn about hospitality companies, practice oral presentation skills, learning hospitality career /career awareness.
Materials: Floor plan of Expo, paper, pens/pencils.
"How to do a scavenger hunt: Finding the message":
- Divide the class into 9 groups.
- Hand out the Expo floor plan and assign each group a grouping of companies at the Expo.
- Have the students prepare questions based on company message.
After the students have finished visiting all booths, have them answer the below questions based on what they learned:
- Which company taught me something closest to something I learned in class and what did they teach?
- Which company told me something that I didn't know? What was their message?
- Which company surprised me the most? What was the surprise?
- After returning to school, have each student stand up and answer the questions listed above.
Do ask business related questions and mission related questions. “What do you want me to know about your company?”
DO NOT ASK: "Which had the best food" or "Who brought the most number of people".
Use questions that require your student to ask "why is the company here". Get the students involved in asking questions about the subject matter and relate it back to class.
